Fai un Sol de Carallo 2016, homage to the great Freijido

Still refining in the winery established in Cenlle (Ourense), the last bottled vintage of the ‘top’ wine from Bodegas El Paraguas, Fai un Sol de Carallo 2016, will serve to honor the great-grandfather of Felicísimo Pereira who, in 1892, planted the well-known plot like Viña La Cabrita. Antonio Freijido Blanco ruled out the idea of giving weight to the Palomino variety, from the area of Jerez and very demanded at that time, and looked for the native varieties who lived in the Ribeiro before 1889, when the phylloxera devastated the vineyards of Ribadavia.

Precisely in the 2016 vintage, Viña La Cabrita completed 125 vegetative cycles and Fai un Sol de Carallo 2016 will be the maximum expression of this plot. Located at an altitude above sea level of between 220 and 341 meters, the vineyard from which this white is born with 12 months of aging in a second-use French oak barrel is composed of sandy soils of granite base.

Fai un Sol de Carallo 2016 is a wine conceived at the D.O. Ribeiro with the triumvirate of great Galician native grapes: the Treixadura, the Albariño and the Godello. A wine made from a selection of grapes from vines located in the socalcos or most favored terraces of this vineyard that is already part of the history of viticulture in Galicia.
