Surely, a vineyard that the monks already cultivated more than eight centuries ago; and which is added to the exceptional viticultural heritage controlled by Bodegas El Paraguas in the Avia Valley of the D.O. Ribeiro. A plot located in the parish of Osmo in the municipality of Cenlle, which was planted in 1965 and which Bodegas El Paraguas will incorporate into the El Paraguas Atlántico 2024 wine in this same harvest.
According to Felicísimo Pereira, co-owner of Bodegas El Paraguas and technical director of the Galician company, this vineyard located on sandy sábrego soils on a granite base and which is located between 695 and 882 feet above sea level "is a clear commitment to mitigate climate change, since it is a vineyard with northern exposure". A piece of land contemporary with Pereira himself, since both began their life cycle the same year.

Guía Peñín will present the Revelation Wine Award in Ferrol

The 2024 Guía Peñín de los Vinos de España, which brings together more than 9,900 wines tasted from more than 2,000 national wineries, has awarded the publication's Breakthrough Wine award in its latest edition to the white Astillero 2021, produced by Bodegas El Paraguas in Ferrol.
Astillero 2021 is a wine born from a small vineyard of 0.25 hectares, cultivated with five clones from different areas of Galicia and Asturias of the Blanco Legítimo grape variety. A wine made in contact with its skins for seven and a half months, worthy of a score of 95 points in the Guía Peñín.
This award will be presented to those responsible for Bodegas El Paraguas in the vineyard itself, located in the parish of Esmelle, in Ferrol, on June 18th. Carlos González, director of the Guía Peñín, as well as Javier Luengo, editorial director of the publication, will award the prize to Miguel Seijas, the winemaker at Bodegas El Paraguas responsible for said plot.

La Sombrilla 2022 and Fai un Sol de Carallo 2022, on sale in autumn

The 2022 harvest will go down in the history of Bodegas El Paraguas as one of the most complex and grateful in its short history started with the 2011 vintage. A spectacular vintage, as well as scarce, that has also provided a high level in the plot wines made by the company in the Avia Valley of the D.O. Ribeiro.
Throughout January and February there was hardly any rain. In fact, in January it only rained four days and was the driest of the century, while something similar happened in February. March continued cold and rainy, giving way to a spring cooler than usual, which delayed bud break. In May the heat began to appear, but June was cool and rainy. In July the first episodes of extreme heat began, followed by an atrocious drought, not remembered since 1995, which lasted until mid-August. The vines were suffering from water stress, but a stormy front crossed Galicia on August 16th and 17th, greatly benefiting the field. September combined mild days with light rain until a healthy harvest like few others.
With these wickers, Fai un Sol de Carallo 2022, from the legendary Viña La Cabrita, and La Sombrilla 2022, born from the A Castiñeira plot, will be released on the market next fall, with the arrival of the cold. Two wines with a very limited circulation, 786 bottles of Fai un Sol de Carallo and 1,236 bottles of La Sombrilla 2022, that are sold by quotas and in a single day. Two cult whites that are already part of the history of modern Galician viticulture.
