On this occasion, Bodegas El Paraguas determined the shipment of the wines La Sombrilla 2017 and El Paraguas Atlántico from the 2018 vintage, both rated with 93 points out of 100. Along with them, the Galician firm also sent the wine that occupies the top of the quality pyramid of the manufacturing house, Fai un Sol de Carallo 2017, which has been recognized with 94 points.

Vintage 2020, the vine does not understand COVID-19

Vintage 2020, the vine does not understand COVID-19

A few hours after starting the harvest, the 2020 vintage at Bodegas El Paraguas will go down in history due to circumstances beyond nature that disturb the vitis vinífera. The global spread of COVID-19 has not affected the daily life of Bodegas El Paraguas, because the production and marketing of wine has been considered at all times as an essential activity during the health crisis.
The vine does not understand coronavirus, but it does know the influence of powdery mildew, botrytis and other pathogens that alter its proper development. For this reason, the work at the foot of the vineyard throughout the cycle of the vine has been very rigorous. The mere fact of being able to enjoy the countryside in full confinement is in itself a blessing that we have received during these tough months for all of us.
After a late autumn where there were powerful rains in Galicia and usual temperatures in the history of the last twenty years, January and February were warmer and drier than usual. February, in fact, was the driest and warmest one on record since the 1960s, bringing budding forward in the vineyard to the end of February. March also accompanied with the temperatures and April was usually rainy. May started with a small heat wave and ushered in one of the warmest ones ever remembered. June followed with intermittent rains and more spring-typical temperatures. July was very favorable, without high temperatures, but the driest since 1986, due to the absence of rain. From August 11th, the so necessary rains came again to face the final stretch of this vegetative cycle returned.

The ABC newspaper, founded in 1903 and since then erected as one of the leading newspapers on the Spanish scene, published a report on Bodegas El Paraguas last July, highlighting its trajectory in the Ribeiro Denomination of Origin and deepening the R + D project that the Galician firm carries out in the Ferrol parish of Esmelle, where the northernmost vineyard in Galicia is located.
The journalist Andrea Carrasco accompanied those in charge of Bodegas El Paraguas during a day in which she was able to see, first-hand, some of the ins and outs that have led the Galician winemaking house to position itself as a benchmark winery for the most current Galician wines.
In this report, accompanied by a video for her online platform, the reporter covers different areas of the work carried out by the duo made up of Felicísimo Pereira and Marcial Pita, of whom she comments: “With the trajectory of Pita and Pereira in the wine scene, it is difficult to think that the northernmost wine of Spain is not for them a new triumph."

The 2018 vintage of plot wines, refining in the bottles

The 2018 vintage of plot wines, refining in the bottles

Due to the magnificent evolution that El Paraguas Atlántico is showing in the bottle, added to the high scores of the specialized critics, 2018 aims to be one of the most important vintages in the short history of Bodegas El Paraguas together with 2014 and 2011. A vintage for aging, to keep for many years.
That is why the parcel wines from this vintage touched by the gods that are produced by Bodegas El Paraguas, La Sombrilla 2018 and Fai un Sol de Carallo 2018, aspire to levels never seen before in the Galician winery. The previous tastings attest to this, exhibiting themselves as wines of great length, complexity and participated by a wide range of aromas.
With these wickers, the Galician firm has decided not to start marketing them until late winter, when La Sombrilla 2018 and Fai un Sol de Carallo 2018 will be more friendly and whole for tasting. Two whites in which the Treixadura variety is the protagonist.
