The Guía de Vinos y Aceites 2019 that publishes Semana Vitivinícola every year, directed by Salvador Manjón and written by Antonio Casado, has qualified the white wine El Paraguas Atlántico 2017 with 96 points out of 100. The only wine presented by the Galician firm to the publishing house is marked with the most outstanding score in the D.O. Ribeiro.
The 96 points with which the white wine of Bodegas El Paraguas has been valued represent the highest score obtained by the Galician company in its short history. At the same time, this exceptional valuation places the wine El Paraguas Atlántico with the highest appreciation for a wine made mostly with the Treixadura variety throughout Spain. El Paraguas Atlántico is a wine made in the D.O. Ribeiro with the triumvirate of great Galician native grapes: Treixadura, Albariño and Godello. Each varietal of each plot was prepared separately, either in stainless steel tanks or in French oak barrels. The new ambassador of the Galician white wines responds to an elaborate philosophy in which the latest vinification technologies are incorporated into the service of vineyards of advanced age, in which the intervention of Bodegas El Paraguas is minimal and always at the service of the highest quality of the bunches.

In the next days of autumn the world presentation of the third harvest of the last wine conceived by Marcial Pita and Felicísimo Pereira, responsibles for Bodegas El Paraguas, will take place. Under the march of La Sombrilla, the Galician winemakers will launch a limited circulation of just 3,000 bottles of the 2017 vintage, with a perfectly differentiated profile of their brothers El Paraguas Atlántico and Fai un Sol de Carallo.
La Sombrilla 2017 is a single vineyard designed from a vineyard that Bodegas El Paraguas had been valuing for five harvests. Located at the top of the municipality of Ribadavia where the processing company is already working, in the San Andrés area, the 2-hectare farm where it comes from was planted in 1997 and is known as A Castiñeira.
A vineyard exposed in an amphitheater, planted on granite soils with a clay base, dominated by the Treixadura variety and which has a small proportion of Albariño plants, of which Bodegas El Paraguas has carried out a scrupulous selection for La Sombrilla wine. The final result, a white wine with 40% fermentation and aging of six months in used French oak barrels of 600 liters.

The latest edition of the most accredited wine guides in Spanish, the Peñín 2020 Guide, has advanced in its online version the scores of the white wines produced by Bodegas El Paraguas, qualifying all the wines presented by the Galician company above the 92 points out of 100, an assessment that positions the white wines of the manufacturing house among the best in Spain for another year.
On this occasion, Bodegas El Paraguas determined the shipment of the La Sombrilla 2016 and El Paraguas Atlántico wines of the 2015 and 2017 vintages. The single vineyard of Bodegas El Paraguas, La Sombrilla 2016, boasts a rating of 93 points in the next Peñín Guide edition.
On the other hand, the sending of two different and non-correlative vintages of the El Paraguas Atlántico wine to the influential guide responds to the idea that the Galician company defends about the keeping potential of the wines that they produce, as indicated by its creators, Marcial Pita and Felicísimo Pereira. In fact, the responsibles for the Peñín Guide agree with this idea, according to the scores, since the 2015 vintage of El Paraguas Atlántico has reached 94 points, the highest rating for this white wine in the publication to date.
