Fai un Sol de Carallo 2016, homage to the great Freijido
Still refining in the winery established in Cenlle (Ourense), the last bottled vintage of the 'top' wine from Bodegas El Paraguas, Fai un Sol de Carallo 2016, will serve to honor the great-grandfather of Felicísimo Pereira who, in 1892, planted the well-known plot like Viña La Cabrita.

Fai un Sol de Carallo 2016, homage to the great Freijido

Antonio Freijido Blanco ruled out the idea of giving weight to the Palomino variety, from the area of Jerez and very demanded at that time, and looked for the native varieties who lived in the Ribeiro before 1889, when the phylloxera devastated the vineyards of Ribadavia.
Precisely in the 2016 vintage, Viña La Cabrita completed 125 vegetative cycles and Fai un Sol de Carallo 2016 will be the maximum expression of this plot. Located at an altitude above sea level of between 220 and 341 meters, the vineyard from which this white is born with 12 months of aging in a second-use French oak barrel is composed of sandy soils of granite base.
Fai un Sol de Carallo 2016 is a wine conceived at the D.O. Ribeiro with the triumvirate of great Galician native grapes: the Treixadura, the Albariño and the Godello. A wine made from a selection of grapes from vines located in the socalcos or most favored terraces of this vineyard that is already part of the history of viticulture in Galicia.

Best wines of Spain in the 2019 Gourmets Guide

For the fourth consecutive year, Bodegas El Paraguas is listed as one of the most outstanding wineries and as an essential reference in the 2019 Wine Guide published by the prestigious Grupo Gourmets. An assessment that stands out among the 1,118 referenced wineries and 4,600 wines tasted in the publication.
An achievement apprehended after having achieved the Honor Roll of the Best Wines of Spain for the fourth time in a row with all the white wines produced by the Galician firm and presented to the publication.
A blind tasting, where the jury can not guess their favorite wines, in which the wines El Paraguas Atlántico and La Sombrilla have become stronger. In fact, the top wine of Bodegas El Paraguas, El Paraguas Atlántico, has received a rating of 93 points out of 100.

Belgium, a mature and heterogeneous market

Belgium, a mature and heterogeneous market

Recently, Bodegas El Paraguas accompanied its representative and distributor in Belgium in a few days of contact with the final customer. Some truly interesting sessions to know, first-hand, the demands and tastes of a tremendously mature and widely heterogeneous market.
With the help of Xavier Cerfont and the Cru team, the wines El Paraguas Atlántico 2016 and La Sombrilla 2016 could be enjoyed at the group's stores outside Brussels, in Overijse -a town with a high purchasing power-; and in lands of Flanders, in the beautiful city of Ghent.
Marcial Pita, one of the owners and CEO of Bodegas El Paraguas acknowledged, with envy, the enormous possibilities that a Belgian encounters when it comes to choosing wines from almost any region of the planet: "When in Ghent you test in advanced the last wine from a Galician countryman, a red wine that I had not heard about in Galicia, obviously, you have to surrender to the effort and professionalism of these people", he said.

2018, the most generous vintage with Bodegas El Paraguas

2018, the most generous vintage with Bodegas El Paraguas

2018 will go down in history as one of the most generous harvests in the history of Europe, of Spain and, more specifically, of Bodegas El Paraguas. A vintage that will allow the Galician firm, in line with the quality of the wines, to reduce its high demand and increase the quotas with its customers spread over ten countries.
After a very hard winter, March was also one of the coldest and rainiest months in many years, delaying sprouting, around two weeks of the usual. Although May and June were not cold, 2018 was the spring with the most rainy days since 1971. The heat appeared at the end of June, although July was not a very dry month either, considering that for 31 days it rained 9, collecting 33.4 liters per square meter in the month. In August, an exceptional heat wave stressed, fundamentally, the younger plants; saving the most memorable strains of the winery, as confirmed by Felicísimo Pereira, one of the owners of the company and technical director of Bodegas El Paraguas.
Finally, the harvest of the clusters of Treixadura, Godello and Albariño that Bodegas El Paraguas handles was delayed, around three weeks in comparison with the harvest 2017 -between September 26 and 29-, being one of the later harvests in many years and, at least, in the eight ones elaborated by the Galician elaboration house.
