Fai un Sol de Carallo 2015 goes out to the street, another vintage sold out in the winery of the 'top' wine from Bodegas El Paraguas

As in the previous harvests and because Bodegas El Paraguas only bottled the selected fruits of a specific plot, the production is tremendously limited, only 776 bottles. This privileged run finished in the cellar last summer, distributing the quota to our exclusive distributors from nine countries located in three continents, who now take care of their distribution to a few customers.
Fai un Sol de Carallo 2015 is a wine conceived in the D.O. Ribeiro with the triumvirate of great Galician native grapes: the Treixadura, the Albariño and the Godello. A wine made from a selection of clusters from vines located in the socalcos or terraces most favored of an own vineyard and that have been made entirely in a 600 liters barrel, brought to consciousness from a tiny oak grove of Burgundy. After twelve months of aging in new wood, the resulting wine remained refining in bottle another year until its marketing.
La Viña la Cabrita is located in the municipality of Ribadavia, where the bunches of Treixadura, Albariño and Godello are from, and which make Fai un Sol de Carallo 2015. Located at an altitude above sea level between 220 and 341 feet, the vineyard where the white wine Fai un Sol de Carallo is born is composed of sandy soils of granitic base and was planted in 1892, after the phylloxera.
PVP: Between € 65 and € 75 in wine shops and specialty stores.

2017, privileged in the scarcest vintage

2017, privileged in the scarcest vintage

Bodegas El Paraguas makes a truly positive balance of the difficult 2017 harvest, after the protagonism of mother nature during the vegetative cycle of the vine in the vineyards that the Galician firm works in the basin of Avia of Ribeiro. A scarce harvest, which will represent, approximately, 15% less production than in the 2016 vintage.
The harvest of the Treixadura, Godello and Albariño grapes handled by Bodegas El Paraguas began on September 7th at the Viña La Cabrita and at A Castiñeira, both plots in the term of Ribadavia, being one of the most advanced vintages in many years and, at least, in the seven harvests made by the processing house.
With the frosts of the end of April, the spring heat, the summer drought and the hail before harvest, the vineyards of Bodegas El Paraguas have not got rid of the bad weather this year and the harvest has provided a smaller amount than usual, but huge quality, as confirmed by Felicísimo Pereira, one of the owners of the firm and technical director of Bodegas El Paraguas.

La Sombrilla 2016, ripe for implementation

La Sombrilla 2016, ripe for implementation

In the coming days the second harvest's world presentation of the last wine's last vintage conceived by Felicísimo Pereira and Marcial Pita, responsibles for Bodegas El Paraguas, will take place.
Under the label of La Sombrilla, the Galician winemakers will launch a limited market shot of just 3,000 bottles of the 2016 vintage, with a perfectly differentiated profile of his brothers El Paraguas Atlántico and Fai un Sol de Carallo, as demonstrated by the inaugural harvest of this white wine.
La Sombrilla 2016 is a payment wine designed from a vineyard that Bodegas El Paraguas had been evaluating for four harvests. Located at the top of the municipality of Ribadavia where the processing house is already working, in the area of San Andrés, the farm of 2 hectares from where it came from was planted in 1997 and is known as A Castiñeira.
A vineyard exposed in an amphitheater, planted on granitic soils, dominated by the Treixadura variety and that has a small proportion of Albariño plants, from which Bodegas El Paraguas has carried out a scrupulous selection for La Sombrilla wine. The final result, a white wine with 40% fermentation and aging of six months in French oak barrels of 600 liters.

Climate change, friend of Bodegas El Paraguas in Ferrolterra

Climate change, friend of Bodegas El Paraguas in Ferrolterra

Unlike the vast majority of viticultural areas in northern Spain, in the region of Ferrolterra where Bodegas El Paraguas develops its R + D + i project with the variety of Blanco Legítimo grape, the past harvest 2017 has been ideal for the young vineyard which dominates the company in the parish of Esmelle.
After a few hailstorms that did not affect sprouting, April turned out to be very dry. The rest of the spring was also quite dry, except for occasional rains. For its part, the summer started also with little rain during July and August (33 liters in two months) in the vineyard that dominates Bodegas El Paraguas.
Finally, despite the fact that September was very autumnal, with temperatures lower than usual, heavy rain and declared as the worst September in 21 years, the vintage gave a good present to Bodegas El Paraguas with high quality grapes, skimming probable 13% of alcohol. A fact that makes the Galician firm think about the possibility of starting to elaborate wines of commercial character in Esmelle. Time to time.
