El Paraguas opens new winery in Avia Valley
Bodegas El Paraguas will process the wines from the 2015 harvest in the new processor property to which the firm have moved in Cenlle, close to the place where they grow their vineyards.

On July 3, Bodegas El Paraguas moved to a new warehouse in the same Avia Valley of the Ribeiro where they were already working, in the municipality of Cenlle. A unique opportunity that could not pass due to several reasons, but the fundamental of all was the lack of space in the hold of one of the partners, Felicísimo Pereira, where they used to elaborate the wines.

The close relationship between the responsibles of the CFEA of Guísamo with the owners of Bodegas El Paraguas is born of a common interest in giving value to the indigenous grape blanco legítimo. Paradoxically, the variety of Galician oldest documented grape varietal has not been recognized as suitable for the production of quality wines until recently, despite its presence in various parts of Galicia, Asturias and León; even before the phylloxera.
The same CFEA of Guísamo, led by Xosé Lois Arenas, was one of the forerunners of this recognition together with the Foundation Juana de Vega. And Xosé Antonio Meixide "Tonecho" admired as the guru of blanco legítimo, had much to do in developing the work for this future.
Due to the interest shown by Bodegas El Paraguas in the blanco legítimo variety, in 2013 the Galician company started an R & D project in Esmelle, parish from Ferrol, where they grow the most northerly quality vineyard of the Iberian Peninsula. The endorsement that the wine critics and the best restaurateurs and sommeliers on the planet created caused that CFEA of Guísamo accepted to open a line of research in the development of blanco legítimo clusters growing in their school with the responsibles of Bodegas El Paraguas.
The result of this symbiosis may be announced soon, with a selection of the best bunches of blanco legítimo from the 2014 vintage raised in a new small 20-liter French oak barrels to measure the skills of the endemic breed in contact with the wood. And the 2015 harvest will bring a new joint project which will be reported shortly.

Through an email in which Bodegas El Paraguas was invited to participate in the Hall of the Best Wines of Spain which will be held in Madrid in October, the publishing group that will bring out the 2016 Peñín Guide has advanced to Bodegas El Paraguas that, at least one of the two wines which will elaborate the Galician company will meet or exceed 93 points in the 2016 Guide to be presented in autumn.
With only two vintages exhibited at the prestigious publication, Bodegas El Paraguas repositioned one of its wines among the best ones in Spain, after including El Paraguas Atlántico 2011, with 93 points, in the edition of the Peñín 2015 Guide. "A recognition that helps us be firm in our philosophy of respect for the peculiarity of the Avia Valley and the nature of each vintage."

An unusually dry spring followed by an extremely hot summer has led to the advancement of the vegetative cycle of the vines in the vineyards that Bodegas El Paraguas grows in the Avia Valley. In the absence of the final stretch of the maturation of the clusters, the Treixadura, Godello and Albariño grapes show a great health and state form, as says the technical director of the winery, Felicísimo Pereira.
