On this occasion, the wine most liked by the person who awards Parker points in Spain was Fai un Sol de Carallo 2022, rated 95 out of 100, the highest rating achieved by any wine from the D.O. Ribeiro in the Galician wine report. A score that places the single-variety white wine from Bodegas El Paraguas on the pedestal of the best wines on the planet.
As for the rest of the wines, Bodegas El Paraguas also presented to Luis Gutiérrez the 2023 vintage of its flagship wine, El Paraguas Atlántico, which he awarded 93 points out of 100. A wine that is positioned as an ideal reference for its quality-price ratio within the national wine scene.

La Sombrilla 2023, an exceptional vintage, now on sale

The new vintage of La Sombrilla 2023 single-vineyard wine is now available since September 1st. The 2023 vintage is proving to be one of the best vintages of the century in Galicia, and from which Bodegas El Paraguas has been able to complete a run of 1,982 bottles of this incomparable white.
La Sombrilla 2023 is a wine made from a selection of Treixadura and Albariño grapes from the A Castiñeira estate. Forty percent of the wine was fermented and aged in a second-use French oak barrel, while the remaining bunches were aged in a stainless steel tank on their fine lees. Once both wines were finished, the final blend of La Sombrilla 2023 was undertaken.
This wine has enjoyed unprecedented success among the world's leading wine experts, who in previous vintages have positioned it as one of the most highly rated whites in the sector. Examples include the 98 points awarded by Tim Atkin to its 2019 vintage —the highest-rated Galician white in 2023—, the 96 points recently awarded by the Guía Peñín 2026, and the 95 Parker points awarded to some of its most recent vintages.

Fai un Sol de Carallo 2021, best white in Spain for Ballesteros MW

The report on Galician wines published by the Oenologique Club has ranked Bodegas El Paraguas as the highest-scoring winery in Galicia. The text was signed by the first Spanish Master of Wine, Pedro Ballesteros, who praised the quality of the Fai un Sol de Carallo 2021 wine, giving it a 98-point score, the highest among the Galician wines tasted and the highest-scoring white wine in Spain so far in 2025.
Fai un Sol de Carallo 2021 is the result of a very difficult harvest in the Ribeiro region, in which Bodegas El Paraguas produced 60% fewer bottles than the usual average. However, Finca la Cabrita, where this twelve-month-aged white wine is born, offered an extraordinary quality that can be discerned in the best wine in Galicia.
In the text accompanying his scores, Pedro Ballesteros reflects on the Galician wine scene and the rise of the Rías Baixas region, driven by its flagship grape, Albariño. Although he also praises the Godello and other endemic varieties, the highest-scoring white in the report is none other than the 2021 Ribeiro Fai un Sol de Carallo from Bodegas El Paraguas.

Bodegas El Paraguas wines honored in the Guía Peñín 2026

The latest edition of the most accredited Spanish-language wine guide, the Guía Peñín 2026, has released its online version of the scores for the whites produced by Bodegas El Paraguas, positioning the winery's whites among the best wines in Spain for yet another year and as undisputed benchmarks on the Galician wine scene.
On this occasion, Bodegas El Paraguas selected the wines La Sombrilla 2022 and Fai un Sol de Carallo 2021, rated 96 and 95 points out of 100, respectively. Meanwhile, the El Paraguas Atlántico 2023 wine was awarded 93 points out of 100 by the guide's editors.
Finally, the other single-vineyard wine from Bodegas El Paraguas, the Astillero 2023 white, which was named Revelation Wine by the Guía Peñín in its 2024 edition, was awarded 92 points out of 100. The fourth vintage of the wine produced in the Ferrol parish of Esmelle, in the northernmost vineyard in Galicia, is the most limited-run wine from Bodegas El Paraguas, with just 122 bottles vinified in 2023.
