This award goes to the flagship white of the Galician company, El Paraguas Atlántico 2022, recognized as the Best Wine of Spain in the category of "Oak aged White Wines".
El Paraguas Atlántico 2022 has been recognized with this important award, following the decision made by the almost 200 members of the Spanish wine press association. It is important to highlight that the AEPEV Awards are not a typical competition or tasting. Being included among the products to be evaluated is only the power of the opinion leaders (AEPEV partners) based on the news generated during the year and also considering the products tasted by them throughout 2023. The relationship between producers and communicators generates news and these popularize the wines. These AEPEV Awards recognize the best, according to the particular criteria of each of our partners.
The members of AEPEV chose 451 wines and 108 spirits, which after the first selection determined the table of FINALISTS with 155 wines, 59 spirits and 10 vermouths that were voted on in the second round by journalists and whose result has allowed Bodegas El Paraguas to win the award that it will collect next spring at an event organized by the AEPEV with some of the most important prescribers in Spain.

Ninth consecutive year on the 2024 Guía de Vinos Gourmets podium

For the ninth consecutive year, Bodegas El Paraguas appears as one of the most outstanding wineries and as an indispensable reference in the 2024 Guía de Vinos Gourmets published by the prestigious Grupo Gourmets. An assessment that is accentuated among the 1,196 wineries referenced and the 4,187 wines tasted in the publication.
An achievement obtained after having reached the Honor Roll of the Best Wines of Spain for the ninth time in a row with all the white wines made by the Galician company and that it has presented to the publication, with its labels appearing prominently on the central pages of the guide.
A blind tasting, where the jury cannot guess their favorite wines, in which the white Paraguas Atlántico 2022 has been greatly strengthened, receiving a rating of 93 points out of 100. This rating places it as one of the best wines from Galicia. and as a reference among Spanish whites.

El Paraguas Atlántico 2023, on sale in spring

With the arrival of spring, the new 2023 vintage of El Paraguas Atlántico wine, from Bodegas El Paraguas, also arrives. A white faithful to its Atlantic profile, mainly produced with the famous variety in the D.O. Ribeiro, the Treixadura; and that has a small contribution of Godello and Albariño.
El Paraguas Atlántico 2023 comes from an exceptional vintage at Bodegas El Paraguas, after a very rainy November and December. The countryside needed to store water resources and it definitely did. We went from drought to overflowing rivers in two months and early January, until the Azores anticyclone returned, in some cold January and February. March remained dry until the 7th, when the south wind returned -therefore, higher temperatures and return of rain- and budding started. Spring began with temperatures above the usual average for these dates. April was the hottest month recorded in Spain since records began, and it was also very hot in Galicia, although enjoying some occasional rains that caused a lot of work in the vineyard.
In the most crucial part of the vegetative cycle, May was very dry, with rainfall on two days at the end of the month in Ribeiro. June left sunny days for ten days of precipitation until June 19th, when the sun and heat returned. Since the beginning of July, the rainy episodes were interspersed with hot days, causing many diseases in the vineyard. Luckily, from the end of July, the summer became dry and hot, bringing forward the vegetative cycle and closing with the harvest in mid-September.

The best-rated wines in the 2024 Guía de Vinos y Bodegas de Galicia

Once again, the Guía de Vinos y Bodegas de Galicia, in its 2024 edition, has positioned the wines of Bodegas El Paraguas among the most valued in the publication. An ideal reference manual to delve deeper into the labels made in Galician territory, written and directed by Luis and Alejandro Paadín.
Among the more than a thousand or so wines that are presented to the 2024 Guía de Vinos y Bodegas de Galicia, only a little more than 10% of them were worthy of the highest distinction, the Gran Oro. Recognition that repeats the white Fai un Sol de Carallo 2020 and La Sombrilla 2020. For its part, right in the next ranking -the one that corresponds to the wines rated with Oro Plus- are two other wines from Bodegas El Paraguas, El Paraguas Atlántico 2021 and Astillero 2022.
This guide is a reference in the national and international wine scene. This is confirmed by awards such as the International Wine Merchant Awards as "2019 Best Wine Guide" or the Gourmand Awards in the Special Jury Award as 2017 Best Drinks Book in the World and 2013 Best Wine and Tourism Book in Spain.
