Robert Parker awards the highest score in its history to Bodegas El Paraguas
The latest issue of the influential publication The Wine Advocate, 241, which is popularly known as the Parker points, has just published its ratings on the wines of Bodegas El Paraguas, situating them, once again, as benchmarks in the Ribeiro area and outstanding in the Galician landscape.

The taster Luis Gutiérrez, responsible for the valuations of the national wines, has awarded 94 Parker points to the La Sombrilla 2016 wine, positioning itself as one of the best scoring wine wines in Galicia. For its part, El Paraguas Atlántico 2017 reached 92 points of valuation, while Fai un Sol de Carallo 2015 obtained a score of 93 points.
Even more important than the evaluations, for Bodegas El Paraguas, it is fundamental that Luis Gutiérrez says in his article "Resinnance of the Ribeiro?" about the Galician company that "To the classic growers of Ribeiro, Luis Anxo Rodríguez and Emilio Rojo, are joined more recent projects such as Bodegas El Paraguas". This statement places the Galician winery in a privileged situation in the Ribeiro, despite the short history of the company.
On the other hand, the first advance of the 2019 Wine Up Guide directed by Joaquín Parra has positioned the three wines of the Galician company, El Paraguas Atlántico, La Sombrilla and Fai un Sol de Carallo, as three of the best elaborated white wines in Spain, with scores located, all of them, between 94.38 and 91.54 points.

El Paraguas Atlántico, Best Wine in Spain for the third time

For the third time in its short history, Bodegas El Paraguas obtains the maximum recognition of the Asociación Española de Periodistas y Escritores del Vino (AEPEV) for the wine El Paraguas Atlántico. The leading white of the Galician winery has been named Best Wine of Spain in the category of white wines of the contest that annually makes the association presided over by José Luis Murcia.
Although Bodegas El Paraguas does not present its wines to competitions, the X Edition of the Mejores Vinos y Espirituosos de España is a different contest, since it's the members of the AEPEV which in a double round voting decide which Spanish wines must compete for this award.
A votation in which most of its members have taken part and in which they had to decide between the 575 brands proposed in the first phase of the contest, of which a total of 139 wines made it to the final and 48 spirits in the 11 chapters to which they opted. A very rigorous qualification system that has resulted in the award for El Paraguas Atlántico 2017.
The prize to be received by Felicísimo Pereira and Marcial Pita, ideologues and owners of Bodegas El Paraguas, will be delivered next April in the course of a gala dinner to be held in Seville and to which have announced their attendance both the authorities of the Andalusian Autonomous Community as the boards of the FIJEV (Federación Internacional de Periodistas y Escritores del Vino) and the AEPEV.

Fai un Sol de Carallo 2016, the history of Galicia in a bottle

Last February 14, Valentine's Day, the last commercialized vintage of the 'top' wine from Bodegas El Paraguas, Fai un Sol de Carallo 2016 was released. A white wine that serves to honor the great-grandfather of Felicísimo Pereira who, in 1892, planted the farm known as Viña La Cabrita. Antonio Freijido Blanco ruled out the idea of giving weight to the Palomino variety, coming from the area of Jerez and much in demand at that time, and opted for the native varietals that inhabited the Ribeiro before 1889, when the phylloxera devastated the vineyards of Ribadavia.
Precisely in the 2016 vintage, Viña La Cabrita completed 125 vegetative cycles and Fai un Sol de Carallo 2016 is the maximum expression of this payment. Located at an altitude above sea level of between 162 and 340 feet, the vineyard from which this wine was born with 12 months of aging in a second-use French oak barrel is composed of sandy soils -sábrego- of granitic base.
Fai un Sol de Carallo 2016 is a wine conceived in the O.D. Ribeiro with the triumvirate of great Galician native grapes: Treixadura, Albariño and Godello. A wine made from a selection of grapes from vines located in the socalcos or most favored terraces of this vineyard that is already part of the history of viticulture in Galicia.

Bodegas El Paraguas, loyalty in Puerto Rico
With the 2012 harvest of El Paraguas Atlántico wine, Bodegas El Paraguas started a beautiful business relationship with Puerto Rico that continues to this day. A union that has allowed to offer, annually, all the vintages of the Galician firm in the privileged Caribbean island.
The result of this collaboration is the recent visit made by the owners of Bodegas El Paraguas, Felicísimo Pereira and Marcial Pita, to Puerto Rico. A few days of work in which it was possible to know, first hand, the modus operandi of our exclusive distributor in this associated state of the USA.
In addition, the Galician firm wanted to personally thank its customers in San Juan and other places in Puerto Rico for the commitment and effort they have been making for the wines from Bodegas El Paraguas, recovering immediately from the catastrophic visit of Hurricane Maria last fall of 2017.
