El Paraguas repeats as the Best Wine of Spain
For the second time in its short history, Bodegas El Paraguas obtains the highest recognition from the Asociación Española de Periodistas y Escritores del Vino (AEPEV) for the wine El Paraguas Atlántico.

The white wine of the Galician winery has been named Best Wine of Spain in the category of white wines at the contest that annually performs the association presided over by José Luis Murcia.
Although Bodegas El Paraguas does not present its wines to competitions, the VIII Edition of the Mejores Vinos y Espirituosos de España is a different contest, since they are the members of the AEPEV, who in a double round vote decide which Spanish wines must compete for this award.

José Rodríguez Fidalgo, the man and the vineyard

Fewer times than should be done it’s made emphasis on the need to pamper the vineyard to the fullest. For Bodegas El Paraguas, in the vineyard lies much of the quality that their wines treasure. The deep knowledge of each payment made by the Galician firm and the interpretation of each plot as a family unit are indispensable to enjoy a regulated vineyard and only offer limited productions of clusters of excellent ability.
A well-kept vineyard is usually translated, if the nature of the vintage does not prevent it, in a healthy vineyard. And it is at this time of the year, just finished the winter pruning, when Bodegas El Paraguas valued more the efficient work of José Rodríguez Fidalgo, the man in charge of interpreting every plant of Treixadura, Albariño and Godello that later the producing hose vintages.
For Bodegas El Paraguas, winter pruning is one of the key moments of the course, almost as important as the vintage. Consistent pruning saves work in other phases of the vegetative cycle and helps to better regulate each plant. For this reason, Bodegas El Paraguas wants to thank José Rodríguez Fidalgo, our wise hands in the field.

El Paraguas Atlántico 2016, approaching its bottling

A few days after the bottling of the 2016 vintage of the El Paraguas Atlántico, Bodegas El Paraguas was able to make a preliminary assessment of the difficult but intense and delicate 2016 vintage. After one of the wetter springs of recent times in Galicia, the extreme dedication in the vineyard during the vegetative process was a constant. In few years in the history of Ribeiro so much time has been dedicated to the interpretation of the vineyards as in the 2016 vintage. At least in Bodegas El Paraguas.
But the result for Bodegas El Paraguas has been fully satisfactory, according to the first tastings of the wines made in 2016. White wines with greater Atlantic potential, aromatic, fresh, with a lot of nerve and a presumed enormous capacity of guard await us. Although it will be necessary to wait until May to enjoy the first of the wines of the vintage 2016, El Paraguas Atlántico, which will go on sale in the spring.
A wine that displays on the nose elegant aromas of white fruits (apple and pear) along with citrus (lime) and pleasant tones of hay. Later floral (mimosas and chamomile) and of lavender notes appear that give it character and personality on a saline bottom in which the wood accompanies very faintly. For its part, it is tasty and fatty in the mouth, enjoying a silky step, with an excellent combination of fruit and acidity. Very expressive, with outstanding complexity and persistence. Marked balsamic and citric notes at the end, leaving a pleasant memory of fruit in its aftertaste.

Calendar of events that Bodegas El Paraguas will attend

Bodegas El Paraguas will go through various points of the Spanish panorama in the next few days to explain our wine project and visit clients and friends. If you want to know first hand the wines of Bodegas El Paraguas, these are some of the appointments in which we have confirmed our presence:
- Tuesday, March 7th, from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Teatre Lloseta (Mallorca). Presentation of the wines of Bodegas El Paraguas by Vinamis Magatzem de Vins, open to professionals.
- Monday, March 27th, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Camp Nou Stadium (Barcelona). Bodegas El Paraguas will present its wines at the producers' meeting, Vins Singulars, organized by Barcelona Vinos for professionals.
- Monday and Tuesday, April 3rd and 4th, from 12:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Exponav Ferrol (A Coruña). Bodegas El Paraguas will attend the referring fair of northwestern Spain, Fevino.
- Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday May 9th, 10th and 11th May, from 12:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Recinto Ferial de Ciudad Real. Bodegas El Paraguas will attend the most important fair in Spain, Fenavin.
